April evening worship
Starting in April we begin a series of experimental evening services modeled on the “Selestial” format that has been used at Aldridge for several years. We dropped weekly evening services because they attracted very small congregations, and we hope that the new less formal format will be more popular.
What should we expect when these services begin? At least to start with the Aldridge format will be followed, and this will mean that the church and hall will be open from 6.15 to prepare the building, and from 6.30 people will gather in the hall for drinks and light refreshments, going into the church at about 6.45. The worship area will be at the front of the church with chairs re- arranged so that the seating pattern will help to stimulate discussion.
The worship group will bring the refreshments,( but this is perhaps something that we can provide ourselves) and all necessary musical equipment. If words and music other than those in Mission Praise complete are to be used ,these will be provided. Then worship itself will feature music, singing, prayer, scripture reading and a short talk and will take about 45 minutes. The group will put the church furniture back in place before leaving, and during this activity there will be an opportunity for further informal discussion. The Selestial services are regarded by the Aldridge congregation as part of the church’s outreach, and no collection is taken .
These services offer an opportunity for us to re-engage with people who no longer worship with us and to attract others who will find the relaxed format attractive, and we ask our members to support it with their prayers, and by making it widely known
